Guilty Pleasures from the closet

Everyone has them, the songs we're not meant to like, the songs that Kurt Cobain, Sid Vicious et al died so that we wouldn't have to listen to.

And quite often they may be made by people whose work we cannot otherwise stand.

This track is a case in point. I am very happy never to have to hear 'Everything I do, I Do It For You' by Bryan Adams ever again.

So why is it, that this track, which I should despise beyond all measure, almost as muchas anything by his compatriots Celine Dion and Nickleback * involuntary shudder* is great?

Bryan Adams -'Summer Of '69.' mp3

(I know, other bloggers have laid down all manner of defences of me, and I repay them by posting this.)

I have a similar relationship with 'Dead Ringer For Love', which I KNOW is a shocking example of power-rock balladry, yet it's always an entertaining listen.

Maybe a follow-up post of 'Much Against Everyone's Advice' by Soulwax would be appropriate? :)

perhaps, so...need to stick up my review of last week's Mogwai gig AND the latest Cure LP review.

Now you see, I hate hate hate Summer of '69 but am instantly transported to a Happy Place by "Can't Stop This Thing We've Started" and would have been delighted had you posted a link for that.

One year for christmas I got EID,IDIFY and CSTTWS as 7 inches in my stocking. I think I had specifically asked for a seven inch with one song on one side and the other on't other, and had to be informed that this was not how 'records' worked. Sigh.

*chuckle* This is the only mp3 I have, so I can't offer to post it, but I'm sure someone somewhere has it!

My guilty pleasure in music is from the infamous drag queen, Divine. From the John Water movies, i really like the whole camp dance stuff. When one of my friends found an LP i have of it he questioned when i would be coming out of the closet.

*chuckle once again* 'You Think You're a Man But You're Only A Boy* was done really well by the vaselines a while later. Hope you're well!

Oh god I love this song, and mostly because whatever summer that was that it came out was the summer that was THE summer for me... you know ... that summer full of angst and longing and you never wanna grow up and you never wanna be young again and oh god, make me stop now! LOL thanks so much, xoxoxoxo

Eduardo, if I listed all MY guilty pleasures, you'd get caller ID and, whenever it said 'international call', stop picking up your phone when I rang you. Alright, just one then...I bought Streetband's 'One More Step' on clear vinyl (yes Paul Young's old band), and would love to hear the B-side, 'Things Are Never Quite What They Seem', once again.
Ed? Pick up. I know you're there...Hello?

*chuckle* I'm still here, Steve!
I haven't heard Streetband but I actually really like ' Love of the common people' by Paul Young.
