New CSS and Coldplay

...in which two hotly anticipated albums of 2008 make tracks available for free via their website. Glad to see record companies are finally waking up to this.

Firstly, CSS' new LP Donkey is due out soon, and this track is entitled 'Rat is Dead (Rage).' mp3

CSS -'Rat Is Dead (Rage).' mp3

Meanwhile, Coldplay's Viva La Vida is due out in June. I stand by liking Coldplay. Sure there are loads of godawful bands who have missed the subtleties of Coldplay (I'm perfectly serious; if you can't hear them, then that kind of proves the point, doesn't it?) and attempted to cash-in. I first got into them in 1999 when they released the Blue Room EP and have enjoyed them ever since. Remember: Nirvana shouldn't be blamed for Nickleback, nor should Green Day be blamed for Sum 41and Blink 182.

Coldplay - 'Violet Hill.' mp3

bloody hell, i turn my back for five minutes and you start posting coldplay, write out 1000 times i will not pollute the excellent 17 seconds blog with coldplay again. The 2 other recent posts before that were good although there is no excuse for the irksome whining tweeness of coldplay, rant rant rant rant, grrrrr, etc etc etc

P.S. What about CSS?!

I like "Violet Hill" and will get my copy of NME to get the free 7".
However i prefer Blink 182 (except their last alubm) to Green Day simply because it was them that got me into playing music.
I have came along way...

i have issues with coldplay, it's my problem and i'll deal with it, just don't post any james blunt or feed me red meat for the next 36 hours and i should be ok. CSS are an oddity, neither one thing or t'other, the juries still out, by thew way what's wrong with blink 182? (apart from the last 2 albums, but the early stuff had it's moments)

Scott w. - you certainly have come a long way!

A.J. -don't worry I won't post any James Blunt here, and I was warned many years ago by JC over at The Vinyl Villain not post any Keane (who have well and truly jumped the shark, anyway, IMHO). And as for red meat, proud to be veggie!

Ed....I can't stand this Coldplay single, I'm sorry. I like them too but to me it sounds like a mess. Davy at Ghost reluctantly posted it too. Oh well.

sig-sorry you don;t like it. Don;t know if it is a single per se or just a track they've made available ahead of it's proper release. If it is a single, I like it as a track but not sure that it works as a single, and i still think there are criteria for working as a single (e.g. 'Wish You Were Here' by Pink Floyd; amazing song, would not have worked as a single.)

James Blunt is bloody brilliant. Very emotional voice. Deep and sincere.
We could do with a few more James BLunts around to really shake up the music scene & rise it from its self-satisfied shackles.

Good thing you're being ironic, eh?

...or did you get James Blunt confused with James Brown?!!

Admittedly he's unlistenable, unless one wishes to send oneself into a psychotic rage, but all what I wrote still stands.
Actually I wonder has that been used as a defence in any court cases yet. "Yes your Honour. Iad mit I did batter the child to death, but you must realise the bus I was on was blaring James Blunt music for the previous half hour."
"Acquitted."

To be honest, the likes of James Blunt in themselves are enough to encourage people to make anti-james Blunt music. This is not what Sid Vicious and Kurt Cobain died for, after all...

What did they die for?

Er, probably themselves -but I idealistically like to think of them still as heroes of a counter-culture of some sort...
