My Bloody Valentine reform!

The news is spreading across the blogs -My Bloody Valentine have reformed!

The shoegazing pioneers, without whom no Slowdive, no Lush, no Blur (go back at listen to Leisure), no Curve, no Ride... you get the picture. They're back! And they are working on a new album, which may be ready this year.

I first read about this yesterday at The Yellow Stereo. This news was apparently from the mouth of Kevin Shields himself, and their website which is being worked on by Debbie Goodge, the bassist. They also have an official Myspace here.

Read more about this at: Hate Something Beautiful, and Minneapolis Fucking Rocks.

Tempting as it is to post tracks off their seminal albums Isn't Anything and Loveless, I thought I would offer you some alternate treats.

The first is their Peel Session from the great man's show in 1988 (these were taped off the radio, so not only do you get mbv but you hear the great man's voice, too!)

My Bloody Valentine -'I Can See It (But I Can't Feel It) (Peel session).' mp3

My Bloody Valentine -'Lose My Breath (Peel session).' mp3

My Bloody Valentine -'(When you Wake) You're Still In A Dream (Peel session).' mp3

My Bloody Valentine -'Feed Me With Your Kiss (Peel session).' mp3

And a couple of b-sides -

My Bloody Valentine -'Honey Power.' mp3(from the Tremolo EP)

My Bloody Valentine -'Moonlight.' mp3 (from the Geek EP)

And, finally, a very early track that appeared on the Rough Trade Indiepop 1 compilation a couple of years ago

My Bloody Valentine -'Paint A Rainbow.' mp3

These are through FileDen. Please leave feedback!

Well done! They were always a great loss to the music scene, and I was just listening to 'To Here Knows When' the other day and thinking, 'fabulous' (even though my missus thought it was off centre). Thanks yet again, Ed.

You're welcome, sir. They do tend to sound a bit off-centre; I remember my Dad overhearing Loveless and asking if there was something wrong with the tape.

Mind you, I'll believe those stories about a new album when it appears,...

A new MBV LP next year? Hmm, where have I heard that before?! :-)

Mm, they make the Stone Roses and the Blue Nile look prolific, really...

i have to say that this band sounds soooo much better when stripped of, in my opinion, the godawful production, it's like getting a joke for the first time!thank you!

JC - I have never been a trendy hipster myself, and despite my leaving feedback on quite a few bloggers' blogs some still won't link to me.

As for the doubting Thomas, nah, that's cool, I think it's good to get discussion going! but I still think they were great...

Thank you! What a treat! I have never heard these recordings before. (Just have Loveless and Say Anything, so I am happy I got to expand my MBV horizons.)

I am getting a little skeptical/bored of all these bands getting back together, but I have a feeling a MBV reunion might be cool...

I think it will be cool. Am hoping that they will get to play scotland, but I'd go some way to see them.

Yay, loudest band ever.

I swear to you I couldn't hear properly for a week after seeing them in the late 80s.

I remember something similar after seeing Mogwai in Edinburgh four years ago...

...and to me after seeing the Wedding Present in Plymouth, 1991...

For the skeptics: See Ian Svenonious' s recent (video) interview with Kevin Shields, here: http://www.vbs.tv/player.php?bctid=1294526509&bccl=Mjg0OTUyNzA0X19FVEM

Kevin:
"It's not really going to be the new record it's kind of going to be this '96-'97 half finished record -- finished & then sort of a compilation of stuff we did before that in 93-94 and then a little bit of new stuff that we are going to do in the summer"

To be honest, I think even a 'compilation' of stuff is something, as judging in past form to wait for a proper follow-up to Loveless could be forever!

even an odds and sods from MBV would have the cohesion of a proper album. Especially if its never been heard-will be like nothing else around!

Thank gd they are coming back!!!
